FAQ

So what is this Taupo Cliffhanger all about?

  • Where is the swing seat?

The Cliffhanger apparatus itself, does not have a swing seat attached. Instead, the design of your full body harness, including a seat plate sewn in, allows you to remain in a seated position throughout the swing. Alternatively, you can swing in a lay-back style or completely upside down for the full head rush!

  • Will you give me a countdown?

Our wish is your command. Your swing master should ask you if you would prefer a countdown or a surprise, before they pull the pin. Just let them know and they will usually obey.

  • Will I go in the water?

No. This is not a water ride, so swingers stay around 10metres above the water at the lowest point. This means you drop a wicked 34 metres or so before barrelling up again.

  • How do I get off the swing afterwards?

Following your epic journey through the air, the swing will begin to slow, and you will have a few minutes to take in the beautiful surroundings as we bring you back to the platform and detach you.

  • Is it like a flying fox?

No. This is an extreme swing, whereby participants are fitted into a full body harness and attached to the swing equipment via attachment points at their waist. The swinger usually stays in a seated position, although they are able to lean back and even upside down if they wish. A flying fox on the other-hand, is where you are lying down, and facing forward (kinda like Superman), encased in a type of body suit.

  • Do you release yourself?

No, we take care of the release for you! The Cliffhanger has been designed using a quick release which is pulled using a lateral movement, and thus can only be done by your trusty swing master. So swingers get to relax and enjoy the view, without having to worry about 'pushing the go button'.

  • Where is the best place to take photos?

Our swing platform has often been described as a 'fishbowl' of sorts, as there seems to be plenty of viewing areas surrounding it. Ideal for spectators to laugh, point or take photos. Directly behind the swingers, on the bungy platform, you will get a great view of the direction of swing. Along the fence line, on the courtyard, is the perfect spot for capturing the action shot. Watch as the swingers' faces freak out once they are released...hilarious!
