New Zealand is one of the world's top cycling destinations offering everything from easy multi-day flat touring trails to the most challenging of expert rides.
The Lake Track Taupo will
take in the very best of the stunningTaupo
region. Ultimately, the trail will stretch 93 km and start at
Whakaipo Bay - a 15 minute drive West of Taupo. It will pass
through the village of Kinloch before reaching the Waihaha River
and State Highway 32.
"The idea of having a trail along the western shore of Lake Taupo
has been a dream for a long time. The stunning scenery, native
forest, close proximity to the lake and easy track gradient will
make this trail very popular for both cyclists and walkers," said
New Zealand Cycle Trail Project Manager Richard Balm.
Bike Taupo has already constructed the first 33 km of the Lake
Track Taupo under an existing agreement with the Department of
Conservation which includes the popular
W2K Track. Cyclists will have the option to ride the full trail
over 2 or 3 days or may simply do day trips on specific sections of
the trail. Primary access to the trail will be by road and/or water
taxi.
